MR. COCHRAN is available for consultation, FREE OF CHARGE, to anyone who feels he has been wrongfully injured. You may contact him by phone, fax, mail or e-mail as set forth above.

Edward W. Cochran has been engaged in the practice of law involving class actions, complex commercial litigation, and personal injury since graduating from Columbia University Law School in 1975.  Prior to that, he graduated from Harvard University, where he was a Harvard National Scholar.  His particular interest has always been in representing individual persons in suits against large, powerful corporations.  A few notable examples are:

Cheshire Village, Ohio:  Mr. Cochran represented virtually all of the residents of Cheshire Village, Ohio in making claims against American Electric Power Company for the lost quality of life in Cheshire due to emissions from AEP’s General Gavin Power Plant, located right next to the small village of Cheshire. After extensive negotiations, over many months, a settlement of over $20 million was obtained.  This case was covered by the press from all over the world.

ReMax:  Mr. Cochran represented the Northeast Ohio Regional franchisees of the ReMax concept in a lawsuit against realty companies Smythe, Cramer and RealtyOne for unlawful antitrust practices.  In the summer of 2000, the case went to a jury trial in the United States District Court in Akron, Ohio, a trial that lasted almost three months.  That trial resulted in a jury verdict for the Plaintiffs and a confidential settlement.

Franklyn Perry Class Action:  Mr. Cochran was co-lead counsel, representing a class of more than 1,000 investors who lost millions of dollars in a Ponzi Scheme operated by Franklyn Perry in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.  Over $23 million was obtained and distributed to the injured investors.

Sulzer Hip Litigation:  Mr. Cochran was one of the special trial counsel working on behalf of the class of Plaintiffs suing the Sulzer Hip Company for defective orthopedic hip implants.  The case was ultimately settled for approximately $1 billion.

Enron Securities Litigation: Mr. Cochran represented an objector to the class action settlement. He prosecuted an appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and in a settlement of that appeal, obtained a commitment to extend the claims deadline for 1441 people who had not filed their claims prior to the claims cut-off date. Mr. Cochran's filing allowed these 1441 people the opportunity to file claims with an aggregate Recognized Claim Value of over $430 million. Without this amendment to the settlement, these 1441 class members would have received nothing.

Mr. Cochran has been involved, either as an Objector Counsel, or as Class Counsel, in over 100 class actions.  Mr. Cochran is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, as well as the courts of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the United States Circuit Courts of Appeal for the Second, Third, Sixth, Seventh and Ninth Circuits.
